English translation:The great leader of independence José María Morelos y Pavón was imprisoned in this building of La Ciudadela (The Citadel) from November 28 to December 22, 1815. From here he was taken to San Cristóbal Ecatepec where he generously sacrificed his blood to the holy cause of national independence. The National Commission of the Centennial of Independence consecrates this tablet to the imperishable memory of the insurgent hero.September 21, 1910.
